Keep the wrap or second-skin your artist applied for the first 24–48 hours. Once you remove the cover, gently rinse with lukewarm water and pat (never rub) dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid submerging the tattoo in water, touching it with unwashed hands, or exposing it to direct sunlight during this period.
Light scabbing and peeling are completely normal signs of healthy healing. Resist every urge to pick or peel — forcing scabs off can pull ink and create scarring. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturiser two to three times daily to ease itching and keep the skin supple.
Even after full healing, UV protection remains critical. Direct sun exposure fades ink faster than almost anything else — apply SPF 30+ sunscreen whenever you head outside. Consistent moisturising also matters: healthy, hydrated skin holds ink more vividly and dramatically slows the natural ageing of your tattoo.
